What is a Health Coach and How Can They Help You?

Health coaches are relatively new to the wellness industry, and they are a notable addition to health care. As a part of a collaborative team, including your functional medicine practitioner and other health professionals, health coaches empower their clients to make lasting change.

Health coaches help you bridge the gap between knowing what to do and actually doing it. They can help you to overcome the barriers you may face in changing habits because, let’s face it, change isn’t easy. 

So what is a health coach?

A health coach is a wellness mentor, change agent, accountability partner, and overall resource for you on your wellness journey.  A one-size-fits-all approach to wellness typically doesn’t work because food, exercise, and lifestyle factors affect us all differently. A health coach works with you on your individualized health plan to help establish diet and lifestyle changes that empower you to achieve your goals. 

If you aren’t sure where to start with your goals, a health coach can support you in the process of clarifying and establishing your “why” so that you can create meaningful goals and prioritize the steps to achieve them.

The good news is, a health coach will not tell you what to do but instead will ask guiding questions to understand what you value and desire in order to empower you as the expert of your own body.

Health coaches also act as your personal cheerleader – they are there to support you through every step of your wellness journey. They will celebrate your wins with you and help you move through any challenges that come your way.
