Unfortunately, health insurance companies are not in the business of wellness. Your health insurance is there to cover you should some major health issues occur. This is much like car insurance – it will pay for an accident but not for your oil changes, tune-ups, or new tires.
From a provider, standpoint being in-network with Medicare and other insurance companies creates a large amount of extra work and comes with multiple billing regulations and other restrictions that impair our ability to provide high-quality care for you.
Dr. Dan LaPerriere has chosen to opt out of participation with Medicare and is not in-network with any private insurance companies.
What does this mean for you at COCFM if you have Medicare or a Medicare Advantage plan?
Clients who have Medicare or Medicare Advantage will not be allowed to submit any claims for services provided at COCFM to the Medicare program.
Each year Medicare requires we have you sign a contract (Opt-Out Statement) that stipulates/acknowledges:
- That the patient is not in need of emergency care at the time the contract is signed
- That neither the patient nor the doctor will submit a claim to Medicare for the services provided
- That Medi-gap insurance (supplemental Medicare policies) will not pay for the care;
- That the Medicare fee limitations do not apply
- That the patient is always free to seek care from a physician who is in the Medicare program
- That the patient agrees to be responsible for payment for the services.
At COCFM we do not run regular LabCorp labs through Medicare. However, we have negotiated greatly discounted lab pricing with LabCorp, and pass this discount along to our clients.
Your Medicare benefits may still be used cover certain other specialized labs, imaging, as well as referrals made from COCFM.
